5A glimpse into the creative mindAug 18, 2006
By Alfred Sullivan "Al Sullivan"
Viewing the War of the Worlds script is a bit like getting into the creative artist's head. In this film -- so rich with symbolism -- it was a pleasure to look behind the curtain to see what exactly the author intended and how this was translated into film. The script has a few surprises that make reading it a delight. In the film, you get the feeling that there are several key scenes missing. The script has proved this feeling correct. Also, several key changes from the original script helped shape the mythological elements that Steven Spielberg appears to use, such as the change from using a chevy impala as the hero's car to the Ford Mustang.
But more importantly, reading the script allows you to appreciate just how rich the language is from the start, thick with humor and with human feeling.

5The shooting script to the ultimate warMar 18, 2006
By D. Donovan, Editor/Sr. Reviewer "California Bookwatch"
The shooting script of WAR OF THE WORLDS based on H.G. Wells' classic science fiction tale will also attract specialty movie-going fans, with a screenplay by Josh Friedman and David Koepp paired with a centerfold of color photos from the film. Wells's novel was a radio show, a movie, and even a rock musical: the shooting script book includes its screenplay, an introduction by screenwriter David Koepp, and more.
